Living Optics, a UK-based developer of computational hyperspectral imaging technology, has raised $20 million in an oversubscribed financing led by BRV Capital Management. New investors in the round include Lockheed Martin Ventures, Applied Ventures, Lam Capital, GK Goh and the British Business Bank, alongside participation from existing investors Octopus Ventures, Foresight Group and OTIF Ventures.
The University of Oxford spinout develops hyperspectral cameras based on technology originating from the university’s Physics Department. The company was co-founded by Robin Wang and Steve Chappell. Its platform is designed to capture spectral and spatial information at video rates, allowing computer vision systems to analyse information that conventional RGB imaging may not capture.
Living Optics’ camera combines visible and near-infrared spectral imaging with computing and software tools for capturing and analysing spatial-spectral data. Its development platform supports 96 wavelength bands and edge processing using NVIDIA Jetson hardware, with applications spanning machine vision, industrial inspection, security, agriculture and other sensing environments.
The company plans to use the new capital to expand the global deployment of its hyperspectral camera platform across key vertical markets and geographies. The financing brings together financial investors and strategic investors with exposure to defence, semiconductor manufacturing and advanced technology.
