BioConsortia, a US-based agricultural biotechnology company, has secured $15 million in equity financing to support the commercialization and international expansion of its microbial crop treatment products.
The investment came from an entity affiliated with John Pasquesi, managing member of Otter Capital, an existing investor in BioConsortia. The company announced the financing on October 9, 2026.
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Davis, California, BioConsortia develops microbial solutions designed to improve crop productivity and agricultural input efficiency. Led by CEO Marcus Meadows-Smith, the company combines microbial discovery, gene editing and field testing to develop biological products for row crops and specialty crops.
The new financing will primarily support the commercial expansion of BioConsortia’s two lead products, Zaffre, a microbial biostimulant, and Always N, a nitrogen-fixing seed treatment.
Zaffre is designed to improve crop emergence, establishment and yields, including under temperature stress. According to BioConsortia, field trials conducted over three seasons demonstrated an average yield improvement of 4.4 bushels per acre in corn.
Always N uses beneficial microorganisms to help crops obtain nitrogen through biological fixation, with the aim of reducing dependence on synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. The product is already being commercialized in New Zealand through agricultural partner H&T, while additional commercial activities are expanding across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. BioConsortia also has a commercial partnership with The Mosaic Company in the Americas.
The company plans to allocate the investment toward manufacturing capacity, regulatory activities, commercial infrastructure and upcoming product launches. Zaffre is progressing toward commercial launch, while Always N continues its international expansion.
Beyond these products, BioConsortia is developing microbial biofungicides, bionematicides and bioinsecticides through partnerships and field trials.
The financing will support BioConsortia’s efforts to bring its broader portfolio of biological agricultural products into commercial farming markets
