Sainaptic, a UK-based edtech startup developing AI-assisted assessment and grading technology, has raised £1 million (approximately $1.31 million) in funding. The round was co-led by Cornerstone VC and Ufi Ventures, with participation from Elm Venture Partners and Brighteye Ventures.
Founded in 2020 by Dr. Rajeshwari Iyer and Kavitha Ravindran, Sainaptic develops AI-powered tools that help awarding organisations, examination bodies and training providers assess written and other complex learner responses. Its technology supports the evaluation of short answers, essays, reports and assessment portfolios, providing automated marking and feedback while retaining human oversight of final assessment decisions.
The company uses natural language processing and assessment-specific AI models to evaluate learner responses against established marking criteria. Its platform is designed to reduce manual marking workloads, improve assessment consistency and accelerate feedback for vocational and professional qualifications.
Sainaptic plans to use the new capital to extend its technology beyond automated marking and feedback into internal quality assurance, predictive analytics and personalised assessment tools. The investment will also support recruitment across its engineering, product and sales teams.
According to Ufi Ventures, Sainaptic’s technology has already assessed more than two million descriptive answers, helping assessment providers reduce manual marking time. The company focuses on maintaining professional judgement and assessor oversight alongside AI-assisted evaluation.
The funding announcement also coincides with a distribution partnership with assessment management software provider Skilltech Solutions. The partnership is expected to make Sainaptic’s technology available to apprenticeship assessment organisations across the UK, extending its reach within vocational education and workforce certification.
