Project-S, a Munich-based space technology startup, has raised a multi-million-euro seed funding round led by Uni.Fund II. The private investment is complemented by non-dilutive support from German federal, Bavarian and European Space Agency-linked public innovation programmes. Exact financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded by Leonidas Askianakis, Project-S is developing space-based radar payloads and AI-enabled orbital intelligence systems designed to improve the detection and tracking of small pieces of space debris and support safer satellite operations. The European Space Agency lists the company as a German startup within ESA BIC Bavaria.
The company’s planned system combines active radar sensing with onboard AI processing and ground-based data analysis. Its broader roadmap covers trajectory and collision-risk analysis, decision support for collision avoidance and, over the longer term, technologies for debris remediation.
Project-S had also progressed compact radar demonstration hardware through design, assembly, testing and delivery by the time it disclosed the funding. European Spaceflight reported that the company was preparing its first in-orbit active-radar demonstration, with a company spokesperson saying the mission was scheduled for a SpaceX Transporter rideshare in October 2026.
