Baselayer, a New York-based identity and risk infrastructure startup, has announced a $35 million Series A funding round led by M13. The round included participation from Torch Capital, Picus Ventures, Afore Capital, and Matt Thompson of Socure.
The company was co-founded by Jonathan Awad, who serves as CEO, and Timothy Hyde, its CTO. Baselayer develops identity verification, fraud detection and risk infrastructure used by financial institutions to support business onboarding, underwriting, monitoring and related risk decisions.
Alongside the financing announcement, Baselayer launched its Agentic Identity Suite, which is designed to help institutions identify autonomous AI agents, determine whom they represent and establish whether they are authorized to act. The suite extends Baselayer’s existing identity and risk infrastructure into transactions and workflows involving AI agents.
Baselayer says its platform provides identity verification and risk infrastructure to more than 2,300 financial institutions and payments companies. Its broader product offering includes business verification, KYB ratings, risk assessment, fraud intelligence and portfolio monitoring.
