Kairos Power has signed a binding term sheet with Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group for up to $100 million in strategic investment and in-kind engineering services, subject to regulatory approvals. The agreement is intended to support the delivery of Kairos Power’s Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the broader commercial deployment of its fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor technology.

The package includes a direct investment alongside engineering support. Samsung C&T said it plans an investment of about $70 million, while Kairos Power said the combined value of the investment and in-kind engineering services could reach $100 million.

Samsung C&T will also join Kairos Power’s integrated engineering, procurement and construction team. Its initial work will focus on power-generation systems and balance-of-plant activities, while Kairos Power will retain responsibility for reactor technology and the nuclear island. The companies expect the collaboration to support both Hermes 2 and future KP-FHR deployments.

Founded in 2016 by Mike Laufer, Edward Blandford and Per Peterson, Kairos Power develops advanced nuclear reactors using TRISO particle fuel and a low-pressure molten fluoride salt coolant. The company is headquartered in Alameda, California.

Kairos Power broke ground on Hermes 2 in April 2026. The 50 MW grid-connected demonstration plant is the first deployment under the company’s multi-plant agreement with Google and is planned to supply electricity to the Tennessee Valley Authority grid serving Google data centers in Tennessee and Alabama. Kairos Power and Google’s broader agreement covers up to 500 MW of advanced nuclear capacity by 2035, with Hermes 2 targeted to begin supplying power in 2030.
