Medical Microinstruments' Symani Surgical System, a robotic platform designed for precision microsurgical procedures.
Medical Microinstruments secured $125 million in Series D funding led by BioStar Capital, with S3 Ventures and Angelini Ventures participating. The financing will support global expansion of its Symani Surgical System and further clinical research.

Medical Microinstruments (MMI), a US-based surgical robotics company, announced on October 8, 2026, that it had raised $125 million in Series D financing. The round was led by existing investor BioStar Capital, with participation from new investors S3 Ventures, Angelini Ventures and an undisclosed strategic corporate investor. Other existing investors also participated.

Founded in 2015 near Pisa, Italy, by Giuseppe Prisco, Massimiliano Simi and Hannah Teichmann, MMI develops robotic technology for complex microsurgical procedures. The company is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, and is led by CEO Mark Toland.

Its flagship product, the Symani Surgical System, combines articulated microinstruments with tremor-reduction and motion-scaling technology. The platform is designed to help surgeons perform delicate procedures involving small anatomical structures, including microvascular and lymphatic repair. It also supports peripheral nerve repair in Europe and Asia-Pacific markets.

The Symani Surgical System has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorization and carries CE marking in Europe.

MMI reported approximately 50 Symani systems installed worldwide and around 3,500 complex microsurgical procedures performed using the technology.

The new financing will support commercial expansion across the United States and international markets, increase access to the platform and fund further clinical research. This includes the REMIND study, which is investigating an experimental microsurgical intervention in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The company previously raised $110 million in Series C financing in February 2024, led by Fidelity Management & Research Company. That round supported commercialization of Symani, clinical research and operational expansion.

The latest investment will allow MMI to expand deployment of its robotic microsurgery technology while continuing clinical studies and product development.
