Tokyo-based robotics startup O-ID has raised $1.2 million in pre-seed funding in a round led by TAWANI Ventures, with participation from Hustle Fund, Techstars and angel investors. The funding round was announced on September 24, 2026.
Founded in Tokyo in 2025 by CEO Stian Jakobsen and CTO Simon Gormuzov, O-ID is developing modular humanoid robots for industrial manufacturing and logistics. The company is designing its robots so individual modules can be replaced and serviced on-site, rather than requiring the full robot to be removed when a component needs repair.
O-ID is targeting applications including assembly and line-side handling in manufacturing, case picking and transfer in logistics, and industrial inspection in hazardous or confined environments.
The company plans to use the new capital to move its first robot from prototype toward production and prepare for deployment on Japanese factory floors. Factory pilots are planned for 2027.
O-ID has also signed a letter of intent with Sumitomo Electric Industries to explore the potential application of Sumitomo Electric technologies to wire harnesses for humanoid robots.
