Reverion has raised $175 million in a Series B funding round led by Kembara, Mundi Ventures’ European scale-up fund focused on deeptech and climate technologies. Allianz, KfW Capital, Aurum Impact and Carbon Equity joined as new investors, while existing backers Extantia, Energy Impact Partners, UVC Partners, the European Innovation Council Fund, alfa8 and Possible Ventures also participated.
Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Eresing, Germany, Reverion was established by Stephan Herrmann, Felix Fischer, Jeremias Weinrich, Maximilian Hauck and Luis Poblotzki. The company develops container-based reversible solid oxide fuel cell power plants for decentralized energy generation.
Its systems convert gases including biogas, natural gas and hydrogen into electricity using an electrochemical process. The same systems can operate in reverse, using electricity to produce hydrogen or synthetic methane for energy storage. Reverion also separates CO₂ from the gas stream during power generation, enabling carbon-negative operation when used with biogenic fuels and permanent carbon storage.
Reverion reports that pre-series units have achieved electrical efficiency of 74.2% during live customer operation. The company has seven commercial plants operating at customer sites, while the output of its systems has been scaled to 500 kW.
The company plans to invest most of the Series B capital in an additional production site in Germany. The facility is expected to provide annual manufacturing capacity of 250 megawatts, representing a tenfold increase, and could support up to 800 jobs. Reverion also plans to develop megawatt-class systems for larger applications, including data centers.
In September 2024, Reverion announced a $62 million Series A, including non-dilutive funding, led by Energy Impact Partners with participation from Honda and the European Innovation Council Fund. The financing supported the company’s move toward serial production.
