Tensive, a Milan-based clinical-stage medical device company, has secured up to €20 million in convertible venture debt financing from the European Investment Bank. The financing is backed by the European Union’s InvestEU programme and will support the development and commercialisation of Tensive’s bioresorbable implant platform.
The agreement provides for an EIB convertible loan of up to €20 million, available in two tranches of €8 million and €12 million. Each tranche carries a 20-year maturity from its respective drawdown date, while access to the funding is subject to financial and contractual conditions. Tensive plans to use the proceeds for research and development, clinical studies, CE marking, manufacturing scale-up and commercial readiness for REGENERA.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Milan, Tensive develops bioresorbable polymer scaffolds for breast reconstruction and tissue marking. Its REGENERA implant is being developed for use following lumpectomy, with the scaffold designed to occupy the surgical cavity while gradually being resorbed as the patient’s tissue grows into the area. The device remains under development and is not commercially available.
The financing follows clinical development of REGENERA in a pivotal study involving 94 breast cancer patients. In July 2026, Tensive reported 12-month follow-up data covering the full enrolled cohort, with 87 patients having passed 12 months of follow-up and 30 reaching 24 months. The company is working toward European regulatory approval, which it anticipates could come in early 2027.
Tensive previously announced a €14 million Series A financing in January 2025 led by Panakès Partners, with participation from the EIC Fund and other institutional and angel investors.
