Swiss industrial technology startup UniSieve raised $9 million in a Series A funding round led by the Orano Venture Fund, managed by Supernova Invest. The round also included participation from Amadeus APEX Technology Fund, Founderful, Zürcher Kantonalbank and Guenat Holding.
The Zurich-based company said the latest investment brings its total funding to $25 million.
Founded in 2018 by Samuel Hess and Elia Schneider, UniSieve develops membrane-based systems for industrial gas separation and carbon capture. Hess serves as CEO, while Schneider is the company’s co-founder and CTO.
UniSieve’s technology uses advanced porous materials, including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and zeolites, to separate molecules according to their size. Its membrane systems are designed to reduce reliance on energy-intensive thermal separation processes used in chemical manufacturing and other industrial operations.
The company is developing applications that allow industrial customers to recover valuable chemicals, improve energy efficiency and capture carbon dioxide from industrial emissions.
UniSieve said its hybrid membrane technology has reached pre-commercial maturity in two applications: olefin separation and point-source carbon capture. These systems are supported by repeatable manufacturing processes and field-tested performance.
The new funding will support the expansion of UniSieve’s existing applications, increased manufacturing capacity and development of additional industrial uses as the company works towards broader commercial deployment.
UniSieve previously secured $5.5 million in seed funding in April 2023 to support industrial pilot projects and expand its operations.
