Urologic Design, a US-based medical device startup focused on urinary incontinence management, has raised $1.2 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed equity funding round led by Angel Investor Forum.

The round also included participation from HBS Alumni Angels of Boston, Haven Founders Fund, Connecticut Innovations, Yale Angels, and individual investors.

Founded in 2022 by Dr. David Hesse, Urologic Design is headquartered in Branford, Connecticut. Hesse serves as the company’s Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer and is an Associate Professor of Urology at Yale School of Medicine.

The company is developing a patented urethral occlusion device intended to help men manage stress urinary incontinence, a condition involving involuntary urine leakage during activities that increase abdominal pressure. Its approach focuses on providing a temporary, non-surgical option for managing urinary leakage.

Urologic Design plans to allocate the new capital toward further development and testing of its first product, continued research and development, regulatory activities, and preparations for its first-in-human clinical study.

The company has developed a working prototype, secured intellectual property protection, and conducted extensive bench testing. It is preparing an initial clinical study involving a small group of men experiencing stress urinary incontinence.

The planned study will represent the company’s next stage of product evaluation as it advances its medical device development programme.
