Copenhagen-based database technology startup KineDB has raised €850,000 in a pre-seed funding round led by Superhero Capital, with participation from NGL Ventures and angel investors including Jussi Pyörre, Kristoffer Abell, Jakob Lilholm, Magnus Boye and Ville Laitinen.

Founded in 2026 by Axel Löwenhoff and Allan Zimmermann, KineDB is developing a general-purpose database engine designed to operate across cloud infrastructure and local devices, including environments without reliable internet connectivity.

The company’s technology allows applications to store and process data locally while offline and synchronise changes with backend infrastructure when connectivity becomes available. By using a single database engine across different environments, KineDB aims to reduce the need for developers to maintain separate systems for local storage, cloud databases and data synchronisation.

Built using Rust, KineDB’s database technology supports embedded applications and clustered server deployments. The company is working with design partners through an early-access programme. Its initial focus includes applications used in environments with limited connectivity, such as underground mining operations, where information can be recorded offline and synchronised later.

KineDB plans to use the funding to advance product development and expand its engineering team, particularly by recruiting specialists in database technologies, storage systems and query engines.
