Albert, an Oakland, California-based AI startup developing software for chemistry and materials science research, has raised $55 million in a Series B funding round led by TCV.

The round included participation from new investors Delta-v Capital, Socium Ventures, HighSage Ventures, Coral Capital and Legion VC. Existing investors Coatue, J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners, Index Ventures and Applied Ventures also participated.

Founded in 2022 by Nick Talken and Zack Kisner, Albert develops an AI-powered operating system designed for research and development teams in the chemical and materials science industries. Talken serves as the company’s CEO.

The company’s platform, Albert OS, brings together scientific data, AI capabilities and research workflows to help scientists manage experimental information, develop chemical formulations and analyze complex datasets. Its tools allow research teams to retrieve knowledge from previous experiments, identify potential formulation candidates and design new experiments.

Albert’s platform also incorporates regulatory compliance capabilities and enterprise security features, including access controls, zero data retention and audit trails for AI-generated reasoning.

The company plans to use the new funding to expand its chemistry-focused AI capabilities and support further platform development. Albert aims to help industrial research teams reduce repetitive experimentation and shorten product development cycles.

Albert works with organizations including AkzoNobel, BASF, Henkel, Kenvue and Nouryon, providing software for research activities involving chemical formulations and materials development.

The Series B follows Albert’s $22.5 million Series A funding round announced in December 2024. That round was led by Coatue, with participation from TCV, Index Ventures, F-Prime and Homebrew.
