Toronto-based Daedal Systems has raised US$4.035 million in a pre-seed funding round led by OMERS Ventures. Garage Capital, Panache Ventures, Ripple Ventures, MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund and angel investors also participated.
Founded by W. Henry Gould, Daedal Systems develops standardized plasma measurement and diagnostic systems for the nuclear fusion industry. The company provides diagnostic systems as a service, with its platform designed to work across different fusion machines and reactor approaches.
Fusion developers use plasma diagnostics to measure conditions inside experimental reactors and assess how their designs are performing. Daedal is building an industrialized alternative to the diagnostic systems that fusion companies often develop internally, covering measurement hardware and the systems required to turn diagnostic signals into usable plasma data.
The financing will support the development of Daedal’s first three diagnostic systems and prototype deployments under contract with pilot customers. The company also has a research partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
