Mozilla Data Collective has raised $5 million from Mozilla to support the next stage of growth of its data-sharing platform for artificial intelligence. The investment was announced on September 18, 2026.
Founded by E.M. Lewis-Jong, Mozilla Data Collective operates a platform through which communities, organisations and individuals can share cultural and linguistic datasets under defined access and licensing terms. The company serves AI developers seeking multilingual, multicultural and multimodal datasets for model development and other AI applications.
Mozilla Data Collective was introduced publicly in November 2025 and was incubated by Mozilla Foundation before becoming a standalone, mission-locked British company in 2026. It was developed by the team behind Mozilla’s Common Voice project.
The company says its platform now supports more than 350 organisations sharing over 1,700 datasets spanning more than 450 languages.
Mozilla Data Collective plans to use the new capital to expand into multimodal cultural video datasets and larger-scale text corpora covering EU, African and South Asian languages. It also plans to introduce additional licensing and subscription options for startups and scale-ups and bring new security and data-improvement capabilities from its research and development work to the platform.
