Egyptian recycling technology startup Bekia has raised $765,000 in seed funding led by Madica, with follow-on investment from Catalyst Fund and participation from Jambaar Capital.

Founded by CEO Alaa Afifi, Bekia operates a technology-enabled waste collection platform serving households and businesses in Egypt. Its system helps users exchange recyclable materials for financial incentives while connecting collected materials with recycling and industrial buyers.

The new capital will support Bekia’s technology development and engineering team, the rollout of its first B2B software product, Bekia Next, and testing of its model in a second African market.

Bekia Next is scheduled to launch at the end of October 2026. The subscription-based product is designed to use waste collection records to generate verified CO₂-avoidance certificates for corporate clients using established international carbon accounting methodology.

Catalyst Fund said Bekia has grown more than sevenfold since its initial investment in 2023. The investor also said the company has diverted more than 25,000 tonnes of waste from landfill and built a network through which more than 2,400 people earn income from waste collection.
