ArkeaBio closed a $7 million Series A1 financing round co-led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and AgriZeroNZ. The financing was announced on September 23, 2025, and brought the Boston-based company’s total funding to more than $40 million.
The company said the funding would support continued research and development, farmer pilot programs and general operations as it advanced its methane-reducing vaccine for cattle toward broader field testing. At the time of the announcement, ArkeaBio said it planned to move from animal studies into expanded field programs during 2026 and 2027.
ArkeaBio is an agricultural bioscience company developing a vaccine designed to reduce methane produced by cattle. Its approach uses the animal’s immune system to target methane-producing microorganisms in the rumen, with the aim of reducing livestock emissions through a product that can fit into existing farming and animal-health practices.
AgriZeroNZ disclosed that it invested a further $3.5 million in the Series A1, following a $6 million investment in ArkeaBio’s $26.5 million Series A financing in 2024. AgriZeroNZ said trials involving researchers at Texas A&M University had demonstrated methane reduction in cattle, while ArkeaBio had progressed to a second-generation vaccine formulation.
The financing announcement also coincided with the appointment of Frank Wooten as ArkeaBio’s chief executive officer. Wooten previously co-founded livestock technology company Vence, which was acquired by Merck Animal Health in 2022.
