Helsinki-based startup Ambio announced a €5.1 million seed funding round on October 14, 2026. The investment was led by b2venture, with participation from Montis VC and existing investor Lifeline Ventures. The funding will support international expansion and further development of Ambio’s AI-powered procurement platform for recycled plastics.
Founded in February 2023 by Tommi Bergström and Elmo Pakkanen, Ambio provides an end-to-end procurement service that helps industrial manufacturers source recycled polymers. Bergström serves as co-founder and CEO, while Pakkanen is co-founder and COO. Both founders previously worked at Finnish startup event organiser Slush.
Ambio’s platform connects manufacturers with qualified recycled plastic suppliers and manages procurement activities, including material identification, supplier assessment, quality verification and logistics. Its technology uses material specifications and transaction data to match buyers with suitable recycled polymers.
Unlike a conventional marketplace that only connects buyers and sellers, Ambio acts as a principal in transactions, taking responsibility for sourcing, material quality and delivery. The company uses samples, technical documentation and quality assessment procedures to help manufacturers evaluate recycled materials before incorporating them into production.
Ambio serves industrial customers in the Nordic countries and Germany and recently expanded its operations into France. Its procurement system addresses challenges associated with variations in recycled plastic quality, fragmented suppliers and limited information about material performance.
The new funding will enable Ambio to expand into additional international markets, extend its coverage to more polymer types and develop its automated material-matching capabilities. The company also plans to improve procurement reliability by using its growing dataset of recycled material specifications, supplier information and transaction outcomes.
