Sunlight AI, a US-based healthtech startup developing an AI-enabled operating platform for independent medical practices, announced $17.4 million in seed funding on October 19, 2026. The investment was led by Lan Xuezhao, founder of Basis Set Ventures.
The round included participation from Sofeon Ventures, Social Leverage, Actions Capital, Overlook Ventures and Early Light Ventures. Individual investors included Chris Hubbell, Tilli Bannett, Dara Rahimzadeh and Frank Williams, founder of Evolent Health.
Based in New York and Miami, Sunlight AI was founded by Sina Chehrazi, who serves as its CEO. Chehrazi previously founded Nayya, a technology company focused on helping employees navigate and manage healthcare benefits.
Sunlight AI is developing a platform that combines artificial intelligence, practice-management infrastructure and human expertise to support the business operations of independent medical practices.
The company focuses on administrative processes including medical billing, collections, insurance reimbursement, financial management and other operational functions. Its platform is designed to consolidate services that medical practices typically manage through multiple vendors.
Sunlight AI aims to reduce administrative costs per patient encounter, improve payment collections and help physicians serve more patients while retaining ownership of their practices and control over clinical decisions.
Alongside the funding announcement, Sunlight AI disclosed its acquisition of Bradford Medical Associates, a medical billing and practice-management services provider. The acquisition is part of the company’s strategy to integrate established healthcare service businesses into its technology-enabled operating platform.
The company plans to use its funding to expand operations, develop its platform and pursue additional acquisitions of service providers working with independent physicians.
Through its combination of software, AI and operational services, Sunlight AI is seeking to help independent medical practices manage their administrative responsibilities without requiring physicians to join larger healthcare organizations.
