PataBid, a Canada-based construction technology startup, has raised $2 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Graphite Ventures. The round also included participation from Sprout Fund, Bluesky Equities, Inverted Ventures and existing angel investors.
The company plans to use the funding to advance its artificial intelligence capabilities, strengthen supplier integrations, expand distribution partnerships and support commercialization across North America.
Founded in 2017 by Melvin Newman and Paul Burris, PataBid develops software to simplify construction estimating and bidding processes for specialty trade contractors. Its flagship product, Quantify, is a cloud-based platform that combines AI-assisted quantity takeoffs, material pricing, labour calculations and bid preparation tools.
Quantify helps contractors identify and measure materials from construction drawings, calculate project costs and prepare estimates. The platform also integrates with suppliers to provide material pricing and ordering capabilities. It serves electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection contractors working on residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects.
According to the company, more than 200 contractors use Quantify, and the platform has processed over $2 billion in construction bid value. The software is available to contractors across Canada and the United States.
PataBid is also developing Newton, a conversational AI estimating assistant designed to work within Quantify. The tool is intended to allow estimators to analyze construction drawings and specifications through natural language queries, identify potential project risks and evaluate how changes in material or labour costs could affect estimates.
Newton is currently in beta development, with testing involving a selected group of customers. PataBid is targeting a commercial launch in 2027.
The new financing will support the company’s continued development of AI-enabled estimating tools and expansion of its construction software business in North America.
