Sensible Biotechnologies has secured $47 million in combined financing to scale its cell-based mRNA platform and develop clinical-grade manufacturing capacity.

Sensible Biotechnologies has secured $47 million in combined financing to advance and scale its mRNA technology platform. The financing includes a Series A led by Oxford Science Enterprises and up to $20 million in non-dilutive funding from the European Union and the Government of Slovakia.

The Series A included new investors OTB Ventures and In-Q-Tel, alongside existing backers including Recode Ventures, Isomer Capital, Y Combinator, Backed VC, Kaya VC, Civilization Ventures and BlueYard Capital. Individual backers included the family office of BioNTech co-founder Christoph Huber and Tim Garnett, former Chief Medical Officer of Eli Lilly.

Founded in 2021 by CEO Miroslav Gasparek and Chief Scientific Officer Marian Kupculak, Sensible develops a cell-based platform for the design and manufacturing of mRNA medicines. Its VECTOR platform combines AI-driven mRNA sequence design, high-throughput screening and engineered producer cells, while its PromPT technology is designed to capture and protect target mRNA inside cells before extraction.

The new financing will support further development and automation of VECTOR, expansion of the company’s AI-enabled mRNA design and screening capabilities, and development of clinical-grade manufacturing capacity in Slovakia.

Sensible previously announced a $4.2 million pre-seed round in April 2023 led by BlueYard Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, Amino Collective, Civilization Ventures, Recode Health Ventures and ZAKA.
